The Monastery is situated in the centre of the village of Sainte Croix.
Sainte Croix is a little village in the Vercors Regional Nature Reserve, only 60 km from Valence towards Gap and near Die (8 km); it is part of the Vercors Reserve.
On either side of the village, perched on its hill at the gateway to the Vallée de Quint, the Rivers Sûre and Drôme wind their peaceful way through the countryside. On the east side, the ruins of a mediaeval castle, “Les Tours de Quint”, dominate Sainte Croix.
Today, the village of some hundred inhabitants, with a surface area of 10.8 km2, is fortunate enough still to have a primary school which also takes the children from the neighbouring villages. A number of craftsmen have settled here too. Sainte Croix has a wealth of history with its old twelfth century monastery and also the church on the square which has the unusual feature of being home to two different confessions. Following the Wars of Religion, the church was divided in two by a wall, with the Protestant church on one side and the Roman Catholic church on the other.
